Who are the top five goal kickers in Super League?

Andy Farrell – Wigan Warriors

Wigan’s Farrell was the ‘King of the Kickers’ in the early Super League years as the Warriors continued as a strong force in the game. He is currently third in both the all-time Super League goals lists (1,026) and the all-time Super League career points list (2,376)

After winning the Harry Sunderland Trophy for a man-of-the-match performance in the 1997 Premiership final, Farrell went onto feature in Wigan’s four Grand Finals over the next six years, kicking points in three of them.

Before switching codes in 2004, Farrell had also earned an incredible six Dream Team nominations as well as being crowned the 2004 Super League Man of Steel.

Paul Deacon – Bradford Bulls/Wigan Warriors

Signing for the Bulls in 1998 following a stint at Oldham, Deacon stepped into the kicking boots at Odsall for the 2002 campaign, following Henry Paul’s departure from the club.

Early that season, he produced an impressive kicking performance in Bradford’s first World Club Challenge triumph; kicking eight goals and a drop goal as they beat Newcastle Knights. He also won the Harry Sunderland Trophy that season in his third Grand Final, despite being on the losing side.

His expert kicking guided him past Bradford’s all-time points record in 2006 and then a year later, was announced in the Bulls’ Team of the Century. Deacon is second in both the all-time Super League goal list (1,043) and career points (2,413).

Hull FC’s Marc Sneyd is rapidly earning a reputation as one of Super League’s most reliable kickers and he could soon be ranked amongst some of the game’s other greats included in this list. In the video below, he explains how his unique kicking style came to be:

Kevin Sinfield – Leeds Rhinos

Super League’s all-time kicking record holder, Sinfield finished his playing days last autumn with an impressive 3,443 career points, with 1,566 goals. He also tops the most Super League appearances, with a total of 454.

‘Sir Kev’ holds a range of other Super League records including scoring points in 52 consecutive matches, as well as becoming the first ever Leeds player to score points in every round of Super League in 2007, a feat he repeated in 2011.

Always a cool head under pressure, Sinfield recorded a 100% kicking record during the 2012 play-offs, which included four goals and a drop goal as Leeds edged past Wigan 13-12. He has also kicked goals in all seven of Leeds’ Grand Final victories as well as four Super League Dream Team nominations.

Danny Brough – Hull FC/Wakefield/Castleford/Huddersfield

An accomplished Super League kicker for over ten years now, Brough made his top-level debut with Hull FC in 2005, where he would play one of the biggest games of his career, that year’s Challenge Cup final.

Despite Brough having kicked three goals and a drop goal earlier in the match, it looked as though Leeds would clinch the Challenge Cup until Paul Cooke’s late try, which Brough managed to convert to claim a dramatic 25-24 win.

He took his expert kicking game onto spells at Wakefield and Castleford before moving onto Huddersfield in 2010, a club he has gone onto captain and earlier this season surpass 2,000 Super League career points.

Pat Richards – Wigan Warriors/Catalans Dragons

Australian Richards has been a Super League kicking machine since being placed in the role by Brian Noble in his second year with Wigan. Although he wasn’t originally a specialist kicker, he finished both the 2007 and 2008 campaigns as top point scorer in Super League.

Then in 2010, he broke the record for most points in a Super League season, 434 in total, a record which still stands today. Earlier that year he also set the record for most points in a Super League match for Wigan, an impressive 38 points after five tries and nine goals. That season was capped off by winning the Man of Steel award as well as selection within that season’s Dream Team, and of course Grand Final success.

A second Old Trafford triumph came in his final year at Wigan in 2013, a match he scored 14 points in. After two years back in the NRL with Wests Tigers, he returned to Super League this year with Catalans, where he recently surpassed Lee Briers in the all-time Super League kickers tally. He needs just three more goals now to surpass Sean Long in that list to move up to fifth.
