Former England full-back and State of Mind Ambassador Shaun Briscoe has announced his retirement from rugby league with immediate effect.
The 30-year-old enjoyed a successful Super League career with Wigan, Hull FC, Hull KR and Widnes before injuries forced him to hang up his boots.
Briscoe, who won nine international caps for England, also became only the sixth player to make 100 appearances for both Hull clubs.
“Having been capped for England and enjoying a fulfilling Super League career, I have decided to hang up my boots to pursue a new chapter in the game,” said Briscoe on the Rugby Football League website.
“I owe a lot to Rugby League and can now hopefully put something back. “I would like to thank the coaches, backroom staff, players and fans who have helped and supported me through my career, and most of all my family who have sacrificed a lot to enable me to do what I have achieved.”
Briscoe was named Super League Young Player of the Year and featured in the Dream Team in 2004, and his service to the game was rewarded with an RFL testimonial this year.
A series of injuries cut short his stay with Widnes earlier this season, although he managed a handful of games for Championship side Workington Town after being dual registered with them.
