A FREE conference will be held at Edge Hill University on 09/10/14 and will seek to promote an understanding of mental health and wellbeing in local communities.

It considers how community sport and physical activity, delivered as part of broader health programmes, can contribute to the management and promotion of mental health. The implications of publically disclosed cases of mental illness amongst elite athletes and other high profile figures will also be explored.

Speakers will discuss a range of topics, including:

• The public health challenges and costs of
mental illness
• The benefits of good mental health to individuals
and communities
• Community-based programmes being delivered
to improve mental health
• The contribution of sport and physical activity to
mental health
• Partnership working and training in mental health
• Opportunities for preventative mental health promotion
• Working in public health and mental health promotion

The day will end with a Panel discussion of plans – led by Edge Hill University – to co-ordinate evidence-based
promotion of mental health and wellbeing. Who should attend?
