Finn In at Newcastle

Newcastle Thunder have made a significant statement of intent for the 2019 rugby league season, after securing the services of current Betfred Super League star Liam Finn from Wakefield Trinity.
A vastly experienced half who has played approaching 400 games with some of the game’s biggest clubs, Finn has been a prolific point’s scorer at the top levels of rugby league, with over 2,500 to his name so far in his illustrious 16 year career.
capped by Ireland and currently captain of the national team, he has played in 24 tests including matches at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
Currently on loan at Widnes Vikings, Finn’s move to Kingston Park will come during this winter’s pre-season and will see him combine playing duties as a Thunderman alongside his previously announced coaching role at Belle Vue.
Finn joins Jack Aldous, Rhys Clarke, French international Remy Marginet, Liam McAvoy and Evan Simons as confirmed in the Thunder squad for the 2018 season as Thunder aim to lay early foundations in the continued pursuit of progress.
Securing what he describes as one of the club’s most important signings in its history, head coach Jason Payne said. “I’m delighted we’ve been able to sign Liam for 2019, he is exactly what we have been after for a while.
“He is an experienced half who can get us around the field and control the game for us and there’s no better than that than Liam. I genuinely believe that in terms of controlling a game, composure and decision making, all them vital parts of the game, he is still one of the best in Super League so we’re really lucky to have him and really excited for what he will bring.
“Getting him signed for next season has happened pretty quickly. Michael Carter and Chris Chester were both great when we went to speak to them about the possibility of getting Liam here, they were really good about it and understood if he wanted to carry on playing.”
Liam Finn said: “I’m not really ready to hang my boots up yet and Jason asked if I would be interested in coming to Newcastle and he sold the club to me, what he thought I would bring and what we could do together next season.”
