Tony Gigot has signed a new two year contract with the Catalans Dragons that will keep him at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium until the end of 2019.
Tony Gigot said: “I’m really happy to be able to do again what I love and to be back in my club. I would like to thank Bernard and everybody at the club, even the fans, for their support. I’m now looking forward to being back at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium to start the training with my team-mates.”
He has been cleared last Friday to return to his playing career after winning his appeal following his 2-year suspension by decision of the French anti-doping Agency.
The French International, who made a first stint at the Dragons from 2010 to 2011 before returning to the club in 2015, became one of the Dragons key player, establishing himself at the fullback position. Gigot, 27, scored 30 tries and 177 points in 83 Super League appearances.
Catalans Dragons chairman Bernard Guasch said: “The signing of Tony with his talent, his desire to play and to win and his ambition is the best new of 2018 so far. I would like to thank and congratulate our lawyers for the job they have done. I’m really looking forward to seing Tony back in action and I hope he will help us to launch our 2018 season.”
Catalans Dragons Headcoach Steve McNamara said: “I’m delighted that Tony is available to continue his career. He will be a great addition to our current squad and adds real quality and strike to our backline.”
Catalans Dragons CEO Christophe Jouffret added: “Tony was back this morning at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium to meet the staff and, after all the medicals tests, he met our chairman Bernard Guasch to sign his new contract. I would like to thank our lawyers and in particular one of our new Director Farid Belasel who led the defense of our player. ”
