Young patients at Hull Royal Infirmary were left dreaming of a red and white Christmas earlier today after a visit from several Hull KR stars helped put a festive smile on their faces.

First team players Ben Cockayne, Ryan Bailey (both State of Mind twitter ambassadors), Jordan Cox, Aaron Ollett and Steve Holker all made a pre-Christmas trip to the children’s wards at the local hospital this afternoon to hand out a range of gifts including Rovers scarves, teddies, rugby balls and key rings.

As well as posing for photographs with their young fans – plus several excited parents and nurses – the players also distributed toys donated to the cause by the first team squad, coaches and club staff.untitled (8)

Speaking to www.hullkr.co.uk, Cockayne said: “It was great to pop in and give out a few presents to the kids.

“I’m not a parent myself but I have a couple of nieces and I know how I’d feel if they were stuck in hospital at this time of year.

“Coming down to the hospital and giving up a bit of our time doesn’t seem a lot to us but it helps to put a smile on their face and brighten up their day.

“I think it’s really important that we do this sort of thing and hopefully make a difference to people out in the community.”

Teammate Ollett added: “It was really tough to see some of the kids who might have to stay in there over Christmas.

“It makes you realise how lucky we are to play rugby for a living. We sometimes get a bit down when we pick up an injury but seeing the kids in hospital with their parents today puts it into perspective.

“Hopefully giving out a few toys and things made them feel a bit better.”

State of Mind would like to pay tribute to Hull KR and all of the rugby league family!
