Salford Red Devils have parted company with former player and long-serving head of youth development Alan Hunte after 13 years with the club.

Hunte, who had a spell as caretaker coach two years ago, was out of contract at the end of the season and the Red Devils say a decision for him to leave now was reached by mutual consent.imagesO3W47GJJ

Salford chief executive Martin Vickers said: “After such a long period in charge, the club felt it was time to look at a fresh approach in the academy set-up.

“In the immediate term, Martin Gleeson will head up proceedings as we take an appropriate amount of time to evaluate our next move at this level.

“It goes without saying the club would like to place on record its thanks for his tireless efforts over the last 13 years.

“He leaves Salford with his head held high after unearthing gems such as Theo Fages
and Niall Evalds to name but two.”

Hunte, 44, won 15 caps for Great Britain between 1992 and 1997 and played for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, St Helens, Hull FC and Warrington Wolves before joining Salford in 2002.

He scored 41 tries in 53 appearances for Salford before moving onto the backroom staff and taking up the youth development role.
