A funeral service for former Rugby League Council Chairman Joe Seddon will be held at Rainford Parish Church, St Helens, on Monday January 5 at 11.30am followed by cremation at St Helens Crematorium.
Mr Seddon passed away on December 19. He was 83.
RFL Chief Executive Nigel Wood paid tribute to Mr Seddon’s contribution to the sport during his long involvement in Rugby League, which included leading out his beloved St Helens as club chairman in their 1978 Challenge Cup final appearance against Leeds at Wembley Stadium.
“It is with great sadness that we heard of Joe’s death and our thoughts are with his family,” said Wood.
“Joe’s passion for Rugby League, and St Helens in particular, was renowned throughout the game and we are deeply indebted to his strong contribution to the sport over many decades.”
Joe Seddon was RL Council Chairman in 1985-86.
