A late try saw Keighley Cougars beat York City Knights to lift the iPro Sport Cup in Blackpool.
Keighley Cougars won the 2016 iPro Sport Cup in dramatic fashion after a last-gasp try from Charlie Martin handed them a 22-18 victory over York City Knights.
Despite conceding early on to York via Jack Aldous, the Cougars were in control at 16-6 up after efforts from Paul White, Rikki Sheriffe and John Oakes had put them 10 points ahead shortly into the second half.
The Knights came back fighting and after Jonny Presley’s converted try had made it 16-12, they took a possible match clinching lead as James Moreland put them 16-18 ahead with only minutes remaining. But Martin’s try with just three minutes left on the clock, swung the pendulum back in Keighley’s favour, as they went onto clinch the title.
Cougars scrum-half Paul Handforth, who was voted man of the match said: “I’m so pleased with the way we’ve won it, especially after the result at London Skolars last weekend. “These fans deserve it, they’ve been absolutely awesome. They always travel well away and we’ve given them something to shout about today.” –
