Castleford Tigers will welcome Bradford Bulls to the Mend-A-Hose Jungle in a game to mark Andy Lynch’s testimonial at 2.30pm on Sunday 11th January 2014.
Lynch, sponsored by Swillington Auto Centre, rejoined Castleford for 2014 from rivals Hull FC, and few expected the impact the 35-year-old veteran would have back at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle. He rolled back the years to lead from the front, racking up 25 appearances in the Super League campaign and making almost 3000 metres on the way.
Speaking about this game Lynch said: “Cas Tigers and Bradford Bulls have played such a massive part in my career and I have had some amazing times playing for both teams. Both clubs have such awesome fans and they really are up there with the best. I’ve been really lucky to play for these two great clubs, last year was massive for me and I’m really enjoying my rugby and can’t wait to get back out on the field, in this which will be the first game back at the Jungle following our off season break. I’m sure it will be an amazing game and I’d like to thank Cas Tigers for helping to secure this match for my testimonial.”
Bradford Bulls head coach James Lowes said: “Castleford became available to play and we wanted to face top-class opposition. In addition, Andy Lynch has been a fantastic to servant to Bradford Bulls, Castleford Tigers and the rugby league as a whole. It was a perfect fit for us. I am sure our supporters are already looking forward to seeing some on-field action and this is a great way for us to get off the mark. The contest provides a great opportunity for both us and Castleford to ready ourselves for the season ahead, while paying respect to Andy.”
Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell, who earlier this year praised Lynch for being at the heart of the Tigers surge up the 2014 Super League Table said: “Andy Lynch has not only been an outstanding servant as a player to both Castleford and Bradford but to Rugby League in general. This game gives both clubs and their fans an opportunity to pay tribute to Andy. It also gives us ideal preparation leading into the new season against a team who finished last season outstandingly well under Jimmy Lowes and who have been in pre-season for a very long time. It promises to be a great game for Andy and for our preparation for 2015.”
