St Helens winger Tommy Makinson is facing a lengthy spell out of the game after undergoing surgery on an ankle he damaged in Friday’s 32-12 win over Salford Red Devils.
The 23-year-old scored two tries, taking his First Utility Super League total for the season to 13, and kicked six goals before going down in a seemingly innocuous tackle in the closing stages of the match at Langtree Park.
Makinson on Sunday said on his Twitter account: “Thanks every1 for the messages! Had surgery yesterday to my damaged ankle! All looking ok! Will keep updated.”
The injury is a major blow for the champions, who meet Wigan Warriors next in a Grand Final re-match on Friday.
State of Mind would like to wish Tommy a speedy recovery
