A mental fitness project, ‘Team Talks’, has been recognised with a national award for its impact on the football community.
The scheme, led by State of Mind Sport in partnership with Bold Miners FC and Bold FC, supported players throughout the 2024-25 season with targeted mental fitness and resilience training.
Feedback from the Warrington and District Football League teams showed every participant reported improved mental health and a desire to continue the programme.
Dr Phil Cooper MBE, from Great Sankey, said: “It was amazing to be shortlisted against all the NHS, other health and volunteer organisations across the country. But to win was an amazing achievement.”
“We were all humbled and amazed at what can happen when an idea to help improve mental fitness in a unique project.”
The initiative won the Integration of Physical and Mental Health category at the National Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards.
State of Mind Sport thanked everyone involved for their support, including players, coaches, and fans.
The project focused on areas identified by the players themselves, ensuring the training was relevant and impactful.
The teams have expressed interest in continuing the programme into the next season, building on this year’s results.
