North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (formerly the 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust) have sponsored the kit of Ashton Bears Rugby League under 9’s team
The purpose is to continue the fine work in supporting the Stamp Out Stigma campaign pioneered within the Trust at reducing stigma towards people with mental ill-health and learning disabilities. We want to change public perceptions by educating people about the realities of mental ill-health and learning disabilities.
Simon Barber Chief Executive of North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was there at the first outing in the new kit for the club carrying the Stamp Out Stigma logo and the State of Mind Logo
In April 2010 we set ourselves a big target – to collect 100,000 pledges from members of the public, pledging not to use words like ‘psycho’ and ‘nutter’ to describe people with mental ill health and learning disabilities. In April 2011 we smashed that target, totting up an incredible 106,211 pledges to stamp out stigma.
This amazing achievement was helped along by the invaluable support of Stephen Fry, Frank Bruno, Phil Neville, Alastair Campbell and Andy Burnham, to name just a few. Along with these celebrities, we also had support from sports clubs such as Wigan Athletic Football Club, Everton Football Club, Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club, Warrington Wolves Rugby League Club and Saints Rugby League Club, plus a number of local organisations and charities.
