Hull FC’s former New Zealand Test prop Feka Palea’aesina will remain at the club when he hangs up his boots after being appointed as their new player welfare officer.
The 32-year-old ex-Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils forward, who returned to First Utility Super League from a spell in France two years ago, will combine playing with his new off-field role.
Hull owner Adam Pearson said: “We have long had a vision to keep Feka at the club as a reward for the fantastic commitment he has made to us, not only as a player but as a person. He is exactly the character we want around Hull FC.
“Whilst his focus and priority in the short term will still be on his playing career and cementing a place in the side, this now gives him peace of mind over his future employment and the chance to really grow in a position off the field at the club.
“We can’t think of anyone better placed to act as a strong support for our players, especially as a role model for the younger lads, and we know he will be a success in the new position.”
Palea’aesina, who was the club’s community player of the year last season, said: “When I spoke to Adam Pearson and he said he was keen to keep me on board I was over the moon.
“It means a lot to me to be given this role. I owe a lot to this club. They took a gamble on me when no one else did and I just want to give something back.
“I’ve been very lucky to have played the game I’ve loved for so many years and it’s great to know I’ll be here for the foreseeable future.”
