Paul Sculthorpe and Nick Wilkinson are taking on a monumental challenge for the Steve Prescott Foundation

Sahara8 years ago my good friend Steve Prescott was diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer, psudomixoma peritonei..which he was told was un-curable, and he wouldn’t see his boys grow up.

However, Steve had other ideas! He set up the Steve Prescott foundation, and in doing this set himself extreme challenges, giving him something to push himself for, something to focus on and train for. I was fortunate (at times unfortunate!) to be at his side through these challenges, pushing our bodies to the limit.

Sadly Steve passed away 7yrs later in Nov 2013 following major transplant surgery, but we have vowed to keep the foundation going strong in his name. Steve always lived by the saying ‘the body achieves what the mind believes’ and this April I am going to test this theory! Sahara 1

Along with my good mate Nick Wilkinson, we are going to be taking part in the 30th Marathon Des Sables…a 156ml run across the Sahara Desert!

This event is well known as the ‘toughest footrace on earth’…the equivalent of 6 marathons in 6 days in 50*+ heat, fully self-sufficient (except being given water!) for 7 days in the desert.

We will be carrying everything we need, including food, sleeping bag/mat, clothing…toiletries (like it will make much difference! ☺) while climbing mountain size sand dunes along the way!

Obviously, while taking on this challenge we are representing the SPF and the great Steve Prescott MBE, but we want to raise some serious money for three amazing charities (The Christie, Try Assist & The Oxford Transplant Unit). Every penny we get is an equal split between these causes.
