State of Mind were invited to deliver a multi award winning mental fitness session at the Nottingham Outlaws rugby league team
State of Mind presenters Ian Smith, former Super League referee and former player and head coach and broadcaster Joanne Phillips were on hand to deliver the session last week
Nottingham Outlaws RLFC were founded in 1999 when members of the Nottingham Crusaders and former players from Nottingham Trent University decided to explore the possibility of playing in the emerging Rugby League Conference. The club then joined the Northern Division of the Rugby League Conference in the year 2000, playing in club colours taken from Nottingham Trent University.
The Outlaws moved to the newly created Midlands Division in 2001, before moving in to the East Midlands Division in 2003 as the RLC began to expand. After twice winning the East Midlands division in both 2003 and 2004 the Outlaws accepted an invitation to join the new Midlands Premier Division in 2005. In 2008, the club re-located from the original base of Moderns RUFC to Lady Bay – the training ground of Nottingham RUFC. The club achieved success, claiming the Midlands Premier crown from Coventry Bears in a 44-0 win before beating West London Sharks in the national final to win the Harry Jepson Trophy for the first time in the club’s history.
The club made their debut in the Challenge Cup in 2009, and were also promoted to the RLC National Division. A restructure of the community game saw the National Conference League switch from a Winter to Summer season in 2012. This restructure led to the Outlaws joining the newly formed Conference League South in 2013, eventually becoming champions in 2015. In 2017, the Outlaws joined the Yorkshire League Premier Division.
The Nottingham Outlaws are one of the leading Rugby League clubs in the Midlands. In addition to the 1st Team, the Outlaws also operate a 2nd Team that competes in the Midlands Rugby League competition. The club is thriving at all levels and now boasts over 200 registered players, with several junior teams and a women’s section.
The Outlaws play a key role in in the community to develop the sport of Rugby League, working alongside partners such as Nottingham Trent University, The University of Nottingham, and Nottingham City School Sports Partnership.
