Anthony Stewart who played over 170 super league games with St. Helens, Salford and Harlequins has announced his retirement from the game
The Irish international also played for Rochdale, Swinton and Leigh and represented Lancashire.
Stewart said “It was not an easy decision but I have played rugby since I was 6 or 7 so that’s nearly 30 years!”
Injuries in recent weeks have taken their toll and led to the decision to quit he said in the game against North wales Crusaders for Rochdale that “as soon as we started my achilles came on, then my back went and then my knee and all that was in the first five minutes”.
That’s the mentality of rugby league players they never want to let anyone down but my body told me it was time to stop.
State of Mind would like to Anthony all the very best for the future and thank him for all the entertainment he has provided over the years
