Bradford Bulls are delighted to announce Geoff Toovey has been appointed as the club’s new Head Coach.
Toovey, 47, has coached at the top level of Rugby League in the Australian NRL with Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. Joining the coaching staff in 2004 when Des Hasler took over, he was promoted to head coach in 2012 taking the club to within one game of the Grand Final in his debut season and then making the final in 2013 where they were defeated 26-18 against the Sydney Roosters.
Also a former player for Manly, Toovey made over 200 appearances for the Sea Eagles and went on to represent New South Wales in the State of Origin series and Australia in the 90s. He was a key figure in the Kangaroos side that beat England 16-8 in 1995 Rugby League World Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
On his appointment, new owner Graham Lowe said: “Geoff is the type of guy that takes the word bravery to another level. It’s that attitude that he will bring to Bradford Bulls. “In its history, Bradford has had some of the best coaches in Rugby League and we wanted the right person to carry on that legacy.
Geoff has an uncompromising competitive attitude and can take this club forward. “Recruiting someone who is proven and as highly regarded as him has to be one of the biggest coaching coups accomplished by the club.”
New head coach of Bradford Bulls, Toovey said: “I’d like to thank Andrew Chalmers and Graham Lowe for offering me this opportunity to come over to the UK and coach the Bulls. “I understand how tough it has been for everyone attached to the club but this is our time now to turn things around and get Bradford back to where they belong – playing entertaining Rugby League.
“I’m well aware of the challenge ahead of us but as coaches and players these are the things that encourage us to do better and make us achieve our goals. “I’m really excited about this role and can’t wait to start get getting things together at the Bulls. The club, staff, players and fans deserve the best and that’s what I aim to deliver.”
