Widnes Vikings and Hull Kingston Rovers have teamed up in a unique partnership that will offer discounted tickets to season pass holders travelling to matches between the two clubs.

In what is believed to be the first agreement of its kind in Super League, the partnership will reward loyal supporters travelling to watch their team away from home at either the Select Security Stadium on Sunday, 22nd March or at the KC Lightstream Stadium for the return fixture on Sunday, 14th June 2015.imagesource (2)

The partnership has been designed to incentivise away supporters by rewarding their loyalty. Supporters who commit to purchasing a 2015 Season Pass/Membership will be eligible to receive the discounted rate when purchasing tickets from their respective club in advance of their team’s away fixture. Although full details of price reductions will only be confirmed when tickets go on sale, both clubs have confirmed that general adult tickets for the game will be reduced to £15.

Vikings Marketing Director Brian O’Connor said: “As a club, we want to do all we can to reward our stakeholders who commit to the club on a seasonal basis. Although, as a sport we pride ourselves on the affordability of our game, we are also aware that costs for supporters following their team home and away on a regular basis can be significantly increased when factors that are out of our control, such as rising fuel prices are factored in.

All of our 2015 Season Pass holders and 2015 Stronghold Members who purchase a ticket in advance of the away fixture with Hull KR will be eligible to benefit from this offer.

It would be great if supporters from both clubs showed their support for the concept by travelling in numbers to both Super League XX fixtures. High number of travelling supporters will give us a platform from which to present the model to other Super League teams with a view to growing the concept in the future.”

If this initiative proves to be successful the two clubs will approach other Super League teams with a view to expanding the concept from 2016.

Hull KR’s marketing manager Craig Franklin added: “The rugby league community prides itself on offering value for money to supporters and we as a club are always looking for new ways to make following the Robins as affordable as possible.

“Our season members not only get the equivalent of five home games for free with their membership, but by teaming up with other clubs such as the Vikings we’re hoping to offer our fans cheaper tickets to help offset some of the costs associated with supporting the team on the road.

“We’re delighted to be working with the Vikings on this venture and we’re confident that if this is a success, and both clubs see an uplift in away fans travelling to each other’s games, it is something other clubs will want to get involved with too.

“Traditionally, our fans travel in great numbers up and down the country and that passion is something the club has always appreciated. Hopefully, this partnership will reward those fans for their commitment and encourage some more to make the trip and back the boys away from home during 2015.”
