Women’’s Weekly round-up | May 14

On Sunday, in the Women’s Premier Division, Leigh Miners Rangers Ladies welcomed Wakefield Trinity Ladies and it was the home side who emerged with a 36-10 victory.

Leigh Miners’ Tahlea Bako and Rachel Ogden both scored two tries each, while there were further tries from Leanne Johnson, Clare Radford and Mairead Quinn. Emily Mullen was on target with four goals.

Wakefield battled throughout and scored twice through Cody Tissiman and Lauren Evered, Nicole Austin added one goal. Miners full back Mairead Quinn scooped the Player of the Match award.

Elsewhere, Wigan St Pats were at home to Oulton Raidettes and St Pats impressed to win 36-6. Wigan’s Kerrie-Ann Smith scored two tries whilst there were further tries for Sarah Harrison, Robyn Birchall, Sammy Traynor and Armani Sharrock. Sarah Harrison scored one goal and one penalty, Gemma Hennesey scored one goal and Charlotte Foley converted three. Oulton’s Franicze Townend scored the Raidettes’ try, converted by Aimee Backhouse.
Thatto Heath Ladies RL
Meanwhile, Castleford Tigers hosted Thatto Heath-St Helens in the Premier Division and the travelling side had the edge to earn a 34-12 win. Reigning champions Thatto Heath had both Tara Stanley and Naomi Williams to thank as they both scored two tries each, and there were further tries for Rachel Thompson, Alex Simpson and Faye Gaskin. Naomi Williams also added four goals. Castleford Tigers’ three tryscorers were Georgie Hetherington, Katie Hepworth and Shanelle Mannion.

Featherstone Rovers Ladies hosted Stanningley – the home side working hard to earn a 46-16 win. Featherstones Emma Slowe scored twice, and there were further tries for Erica Zanre, Manina Spurr, Anita Shorock, Sinead Peach and Brogan Churm. Nat Gilmour added seven goals. Stanningley’s Rachel Barker scored twice and Emily Johnston scored once with Chloe Wainwright-Morley adding two goals.

In the Women’s Merit League, Lindley Swifts Ladies hosted Hull Wyke and, in a nail-biting game, the home side grabbed the win with two minutes to go. Holly Hilton and Beth Lockwood both scored twice for Lindley and Suki Cirillo scored once. With two minutes to go and the scores level at 26-all Lindley’s Amy Ratcliffe took a well-timed pass from Anna Simpson to race over the tryline and seal the victory, Leah Day added the conversion to give her four in total for the afternoon.
