Dr. Phil Cooper works in the NHS as a Nurse Consultant in mental health and substance use and is one of the co-founders of State of Mind Sport (with Ernie Benbow, Malcolm Rae and Carol Ede and Brian Carney)

Coming up on Wednesday 10th June, 10am, the second in our #AskTheDoc interactive webinar series, presented by Angela Powers and featuring the expertise of State of Mind Sport trustee Dr. Phil Cooper. Dr Phil Cooper is a Nurse Consultant at North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Co-Founder of State of Mind.

Phil is an award winning and widely published mental health nurse who has piloted numerous clinical and service innovations working nationally with other national experts in Progress (the National Consortium of Consultant Nurses in mental health and substance use) where he is currently Deputy Chair. He has devised and implemented successful training programmes in the area of substance misuse, mental wellbeing and resilience for Rugby League players, students and communities.

In 2012 he was awarded the Royal College of Nursing’s Nursing Standard Mental Health Award for his work with ‘State of Mind and National Positive Practice in Mental Health Lifetime Achievement Award Winner 2013. Nursing Times Leader of the Year Finalist 2014, MIND Media Award winner with Sky Sports’ Angela Powers and Brian Carney in 2014.

Phil has been shortlisted for both the National Nursing Times and National Positive Practice in Mental Health Partnership Working Awards in 2016. Phil was awarded an MBE in 2017 for services to nursing and with Malcolm Rae and Clair Carson was awarded the Burdett Trust Men’s Health award for the work of State of Mind Sport in 2018. Phil devised the Guinness World Record Breaking World’s Largest Mental Health Lesson in June 2018.
