Last Friday saw the State of Mind team descend on Selwyn College, Cambridge to deliver the session to the Cambridge University Rugby League team
Jimmy Gittins, Will Stringer and Phil Cooper (5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust) delivered the session to an enthusiastic group who are in training in preparation for the crunch battle for the Varsity match on March 8th in London.
Andy Winfield President of Cambridge University (Seen with Phil after the session) Rugby League said
The presentation given by State of Mind was absolutely fantastic. It dealt with what is a very serious issue in a professional manner, whilst also maintaining a very upbeat atmosphere in the room. Phil’s knowledge and experience gave a real credibility to the presentation, whilst the personal insights of Will and Jimmy were extremely moving. It gave the players a greater awareness of mental health problems, and also provided them with some steps which they could take to improve their own mental health.
Comments from those who attended included the following
• Really good, Thanks guys!. Just for interest I also actually have a history of mental health issues
• A good session, well run, so as to avoid being too down
• Really inspiring to hear Jimmy and Will’s stories. Think this is a really good idea and glad it gets so much support from the rugby league community

• Great session especially with a subject that’s so rarely talked about, especially among men
• Absolutely fantastic! I went to school with, and played with Salem Kuadey for many years, so it is a cause close to my heart. Keep up the great work!

State of Mind are proud to have delivered to the team and wish them every success in the future for rugby league and their future careers after university
