Cornish Rebels break new ground for Schools in Cornwall by embedding a pathway for Rugby League.
Greenmount-sponsored Cornish Rebels RLFC have become the first non-professional Rugby League club in the UK to start to deliver national development initiative Embed the Pathway in their area.
The schools-led curriculum based delivery will see RL played in Cornish Schools for the very first time as the most Southerly club in the UK and the RFL continue to take the game to new audiences, growing the game in minor regions.
Speaking at the Cornwall School Games 2015, where they successfully signed up 11 schools to potentially deliver, Rebels secretary Rob Butland was delighted at the interest shown by the Schools “The response has been extremely positive so we are excited to get started! Teachers are looking forward to trying something a little different as well as teaching some fantastic core skills which are also transferable to alot of other sports, not just Rugby League. We are happy to be working with the RFL to break new ground through a great scheme like Embed the Pathway and we are thankful of their support on our mission to realise the Cornish potential within Rugby League.”
The schools involved will be accredited as England Player Development Schools upon implementation and Cornish Rebels will look to host a Schools festival in the early part of 2016 to give the participants a taste of competitive Rugby League.
