Hull KR have followed up the signing of St George Illawarra prop Michael Weyman with the capture of his former team-mate Neville Costigan.
The 28-year-old Newcastle Knights utility forward, a Papua New Guinea international, has agreed a two-year deal with the Robins from 2014. Costigan began his NRL career with Brisbane Broncos in 2003, spent two seasons with Canberra and won a Grand Final with St George Illawarra before moving at the end of 2010 to the Knights, where current Rovers coach Craig Sandercock was on the backroom staff.
“Nev is a quality player and one who has won a Grand Final, represented his country and played State of Origin,” Sandercock said. “He’ll bring a lot to our team and that’s why I was keen to get him over to our club. Nev was a pleasure to coach when I was with Newcastle and I’m looking forward to working with him again.”
Costigan represented Queensland in State of Origin six times and was also part of the Papua New Guinea team in the 2008 World Cup.
He will join up with the Robins in the autumn subject to the necessary visa and work permit paperwork being completed.
