State of Mind trustee Dr. Allan Johnston and his father will be running the York 10k for State of Mind Sport today
The Asda Foundation York 10K is one of the most beautiful city runs in the UK taking in some of this medieval city’s most stunning scenery including ancient Goodramgate, the majestic York Minster and Clifford’s Tower where Henry VIII executed ‘traitors’
Dr Allan Johnston MBBS, MRCPsych, Cert.Med.Ed(IU) is a Consultant Psychiatrist with the National Health Service (Front row, far left). Dr Johnston is currently employed by Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as Consultant Psychiatrist to the Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment Team where he has been responsible for a range of innovations in crisis care and facilitating early discharge home from hospital.
In Derbyshire Dr Johnston chairs the Derbyshire Suicide Prevention Strategy Group and works with colleagues from across health, social care and public health to achieve this aim.
He is a Sports Psychiatrist and Trustee to the award winning State of Mind Sports charity, a mental health charity which aims to improve the mental health, wellbeing and working lives of Rugby League players and the communities we serve. Dr Johnston was employed as World Rugby League’s first Sports Psychiatrist by the Bradford Bulls RLFC over the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons. He is widely published in both Liaison & Sports Psychiatry across a variety of social and traditional media including the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Sports Psychiatry. Allan lives in South Yorkshire with his family and enjoys all sports from Aizkolaritza to Zui-Quan.
