Super League’s two-day Rugby League spectacular, Magic Weekend, has been voted as Newcastle’s Best Event of 2015 in The Chronicle’s People’s Choice Awards.
Other events in the category included Rugby World Cup and The Great North Run, but it was the thrilling action of all 12 First Utility Super League clubs entertaining over 67,000 spectators at St James’ Park last May that attracted the most votes.
Celebrating the best events in the North East, The People’s Choice Awards gave fans the chance to vote Magic Weekend at St James’ Park in 2015 as number one when it comes to family fun and great value entertainment.
Magic Weekend’s carnival atmosphere really captured the hearts of the North East public as shirts from clubs all over the country could be seen throughout Newcastle and the surrounding areas.
First Utility Super League General Manager, Blake Solly said: “Bringing Magic Weekend to Newcastle in 2015 was a big decision, but proved to be the right one.
“We’re thrilled to be voted by the public as Newcastle’s Best Event in 2015. It means a lot because I see first-hand how much effort and hard work goes into making a Rugby League event extra special for the fans.
“The feedback we received from the clubs, staff, fans, businesses and local residents was nothing but positive, hence the decision to return back to the North East this year. St James’ Park is such a good fit for Magic Weekend giving fans a full entertainment package of non-stop action on the pitch and a lively atmosphere off it.
“In the build up to last year’s event I spent quite a bit of time in the city meeting various stakeholders and I can honestly say that Newcastle is up there with one of my favourite places to visit. The Geordie culture welcomed Rugby League with open arms and we can’t wait to back up there this May.”
