Adrian Morley says Martin Gleeson can make a sensational return to Super League with Salford City Reds in 2013.

England ace Morley also believes Gleeson could have the same impact for Salford as Gareth Hock has had for Wigan since he too returned to action. Morley played alongside Gleeson for Great Britain, England and Warrington – he says there is no disputing the centre’s class and quality.

Reds have snapped up Gleeson after Joel Moon quit Salford and signed a three-year deal with Super League champions Leeds. Salford boss Phil Veivers has coached Gleeson in the past. There was interest from several rugby union clubs.

Morley told Manchester Eveneing News Sport: “Gleeson could definitely prove to be a terrific signing for Salford – he is a proven tried and tested top-class centre. “He has had off-field issues to contend with during his career but there is no doubting what he can bring to any side.” “I’m sure Gleeson will relish a chance to show what he can do.’’

Morley is not ruling out an international return for Gleeson. “We have the World Cup coming up and Gleeson has graced the international scene in the past,’’ added Morley. “He can do so again and I would like to see him make this one of his goals. This is another thing Gareth Hock has also achieved. “Gleeson has certainly held his own and done well on a number of occasions against the Aussies. There is no reason why he cannot do it again.

‘“It will be good to see him back in action because he is a good player – he is a centre who can both make and score tries. “Gleeson is one of those players who always seems to have so much time on the ball – this is the true sign of a quality player. “It must be a dream for any winger to know they are going to be partnering a player of Gleeson’s ability. He has always stood out. His footwork is outstanding. I just hope he gets his head down, works and trains hard.

A fully fit Martin Gleeson can be a real force in Super League. He will not have lost it. I have always rated him very highly. “He really could prove to be a tremendous acquisition for Salford and must make the most of this opportunity especially at this stage of his career.

State of Mind wish Martin all the very best on his return to Super League
