RLWC2021 Volunteer Name Revealed After Public Vote

RLWC2021’s volunteers will officially be called The Power Squad after fans across the world nominated and then voted for their favourite suggestions.

The Power Squad, which will consist of 2,021 volunteers, will be the backbone of the tournament, supporting on both match day and non-match days to help make the experience as entertaining as possible for the hundreds of thousands of fans expected at next year’s World Cup.

The naming process started back in 2019, when fans sent in over 1,000 suggestions for what the volunteers should be called. After a panel of past Rugby League players and tournament organisers reduced the shortlist to three suggestions, the public then voted for their favourite over the last fortnight, with The Power Squad beating InspirationALL Stars and Power Players.

EmpoweredBy lead, Nicholas Alogba, said: The Power Squad already embodies what our group of volunteers will be – the driving force behind the competition.

With 2,021 volunteers helping to make next year’s tournament as inclusive, accessible and entertaining as possible across all of our host towns and cities, we’re determined to make next year’s Rugby League World Cup the biggest and best yet and The Power Squad will play a key role in helping us achieve that goal.

The opportunity for people to register their interest to become a volunteer is now open for a limited time only. You can sign up here.

RLWC2021 will be announcing further details about the programme in the coming months.
