Warrington Wolves confirm the signing of half-back Kevin Brown on a two-year deal.
Brown, 32, will join the Wolves ahead of the 2017 season from fellow Betfred Super League club Widnes Vikings for an undisclosed fee.
He made his professional debut in 2003 for Wigan Warriors and also represented Huddersfield joining in July 2006. He went on to sign for Widnes in 2013. To date he has made 297 Super League appearances and has donned the captain band in his time at both the Giants and the Vikings.
Brown was selected as part of the England squad for the recent Ladbrokes Four Nations tournament and pulled on the International jersey against Australia at the Olympic Stadium, London. He also represented his country in 2010 making three appearances.
Head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said: “I’m delighted and am really looking forward to working with Kevin full time. I briefly worked with him in my time as national coach as he was in the train-on squad at one stage. He comes with a reputation of being a devoted trainer, in terms of working hard on his game and being very enthusiastic about improving.
“After being in a situation where we had to recruit late we had a lot of interest from all parts of the world; when Kevin expressed a strong interest in joining us it was an exciting prospect. I think he’ll learn a whole lot through us and certainly the quality of person he is will add a whole lot to our team both on and off the field too.”
Brown said on signing for the club: “Joining Warrington excites me. I want to win trophies and Warrington is a club that gives me a great chance to do this. With a great stadium and a big fan base I can’t wait to pull the jersey on. Being coached by Tony is something I’m really looking forward to and playing in such a talented squad is a dream. It’s all happened very quickly and I am going to enjoy meeting up with the team and training hard to earn their respect.
“I’d also like to thank Widnes and Denis Betts for the past four years; I’ve loved my time there and made some great friends. I will look back with some fond memories and hope the club does well in the future.”
Captain and fellow England International Chris Hill added: “I think you saw against Australia the influence he had in the England halves. As a bloke I couldn’t have got on with anyone better in camp; I spent a lot of time with him and I’d never met him before then. I think he’ll control a game; we’ve probably not had that over the last few years. When we play Widnes Kev’s been one of the stand-out players every time.
“I’ve been an admirer of him for a long time and of what he can do; he’s got a great kicking game which will complement Gids in the halves. I think he’ll bring Dec on a lot as well; Dec’s still young and he’s got a lot of time to develop. I’m looking forward to him joining us; as soon as Tony mentioned it to me I said to him let’s go for it. I think he’ll bring a lot to us and a lot of steadiness as well which is what you need in the big games.”
