They welcomed stars from across Rugby League in a remarkable charity match…

Oldham-based Waterhead Warriors are this week’s rugby-league.com Club of the Week, after hosting a remarkable charity game on Sunday.

The day received considerable backing, with star names from across the Rugby League world involved in the friendly match.

Billed as ‘Barrie McDermott v Kevin Sinfield’, two Waterhead products, the game was played in good spirits, with Lizzie Jones, Linzi Prescott and Lee Briers all amongst the stars who laced up their boots in aid of the Steve Prescott Foundation.

Entry was free of charge, but donations were encouraged to the Foundation on the day.

A huge crowd turned out to watch the match

Waterhead, whose production line includes the likes of Paul Sculthorpe, Jordan Turner and Marc Sneyd amongst others, coupled the event with a Family Fun Day, which engaged members of the local community across all ages.

Lizzie Jones also presented the club with a defibrillator, courtesy of the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund.

Waterhead Warriors are one of the country’s leading Rugby League clubs, hosting all age groups between under 7s and under 16s, as well as their Open Age side and a weekly Play Touch Rugby League event.

They are currently on the lookout for new players at all levels.
