England forward Elliott Whitehead has been cleared of serious injury after being taken to hospital with a head injury.

The Catalans Dragons player, an ever-present in the First Utility Super League this year, was carried from the field on a stretcher after being knocked out just three minutes into Saturday’s 14-12 defeat by Huddersfield Giants in Perpignan.

The Catalans club say the former Bradford Bulls back rower, who is to join Canberra Raiders at the end of the season, underwent scans at the local hospital in Perpignan on Saturday night and was released after a few hours.
